George
Trigo
Nov 25, 1941 — Mar 6, 2025
Cotulla
"A life well-lived is not measured by years but by the lives touched, the wisdom shared, and the love given."
Judge George Trigo, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted public servant, passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of dedication, service, and love. George was one of sixteen children born in Nixon, Texas, in 1941. His life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, justice, education, and his community.
A graduate of Nixon-Smiley High School, George pursued higher education, earning an Associate of Science degree from Laredo Junior College, a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M International University in Laredo, and a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Texas A&M Laredo. After high school, George joined the United States Navy, working in Naval Intelligence during the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He also served as a military instructor at Good Fellow Air Force Base. After the Navy, George began his career in law enforcement.
George's career in law enforcement spanned over five decades. He served six years as a Texas State Trooper and three years as a DPS Narcotics Agent. His dedication to safety and education led him to become a Certified Emergency Management Instructor through the Texas Division of Emergency Management and an "Active Shooter" Instructor certified by Louisiana State University. He also attended Texas Justice of the Peace schools and Navy leadership and instructor programs. With 200-300 classroom hours of judicial training and nearly 1,000 hours of continuing education courses, George remained committed to learning. Aside from law enforcement, George contributed to education as a college law enforcement professor and an instructor in law enforcement certification programs.
Judge Trigo honorably served as a La Salle County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, for fourteen years. His leadership extended to roles such as La Salle County Emergency Coordinator for twelve years, president of the Cotulla Independent School Board for twelve years, one of the founders of the Cotulla High School Mariachi Cotuleño, president of the La Salle County Appraisal District for six years, Cotulla Municipal Court Judge, and president of the Cotulla Housing Authority. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cotulla.
Above all, George's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving daughters, Michelle Trigo, Dr. Margie (Chris) Hinojosa; his cherished grandchildren, Caitlyn Storey (Trevor), Taylor Edwards, and Christian Hinojosa; his beloved great-grandson, Blaze Lewis; and his adored brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, numerous siblings, and wife, Sharon Trigo.
Judge George Trigo's life was a testament to the power of service, knowledge, and unwavering love for family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
