Our Lord called Guadalupe B. Martinez beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to be by his side on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 11 AM. She is preceded in death by her siblings Josefina Barajas, Ezequiel Briones, Alejandro Briones, Antonio Briones and her daughter Josefina Martinez.
She was born on August 27, 1933, in Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Manuel Briones and Nieves Guerrero. She was the eldest of six children and started working at the age of 15 when her mother passed away in childbirth. She married Filiberto Martinez in 1955 and was with him until his passing in 1970. In 1973 she met her husband Ernesto "Cubita" Consuegra and was with him until he passed away in 1999.
Guadalupe enjoyed gardening and raising chickens. She was a migrant farm worker for many years doing whatever it took to put food on the table for her young family. She lived in Cotulla from 1959 until her death. She served her community by registering people to vote while working with the Raza Unida Party and was president of the Nueva Vida organization. She was involved with Primera Bautista Fellowship for over 50 years helping as a worker for the church and always sending her tithes. She also worked as a cook for the La Salle County Elderly Nutrition Center for more than 10 years.
She travelled to the states of Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin Georgia, South Carolina and Florida to find work to support her family.
She is survived by her children Jose Martinez and wife Susan Carlson, Melba Martinez, Domingo Martinez, Maria de Jesus Martinez, Josefa Consuegra, Ernesto Consuegra and wife Jennifer Consuegra. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her sole surviving brother Cristobal Briones.
Guadalupe was the matriarch to 7 children, 27 Grandkids, 63 Great Grandkids and 2 Great-Great Grandkids.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Peters Funeral Home from 4:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 10:00a.m. at the Iglesia Primera Bautista Fellowship. Interment will follow at the Cotulla Cemetery.
