Isla R. Casey

Isla Ruth Beights Casey went home to be with the Lord on June 26, 2013, in Taylor, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was the third child born to Zelma Cranfill and Albert Marvin Beights on a cotton farm in Mitchell County near Colorado City, Texas, on December 5, 1933.

Isla was married to the love of her life, James Lawrence Casey, in 1951, and during their sixty-two years of marriage they lived in the following locales, most of which were in Texas: Corpus Christi, Oakland, CA, a cotton farm in Mitchell County, Lubbock, Fort Stockton, Oklahoma City, OK, Salt Flat, Cotulla,

Harlingen, and Taylor. They made good friends and memories every where they lived. They averaged about three years in each location except for Cotulla, where they lived 37 years. One of the first things Isla and Jim did when they moved to a new community was to find a church home, where they faithfully served.

Isla was a stay-at-home mom until college started looming on the horizon for their children. She worked at Stockmen's Bank for many years, and she and Jim put four kids through college without borrowing any money.

After Jim and Isla retired, they joined the Texas Baptist Men Camp Builders and traveled and lived in their camper, working 8 months out of the year providing labor for construction projects at encampments and churches around Texas.

Isla is survived by her husband Jimmy, daughter Joy Lorelle and son-in-law Jay Watson of Cotulla, Texas, daughter Donna Van Cleve of Taylor, Texas, son Joe Mack Casey and daughter-in-law Mary Ellen of Arlington, Texas, and son Robert "Bob" Casey and daughter-in-law Marifrances of Celeste, Texas, and several generations of nieces and nephews. Isla was lovingly called "Gangy" by her twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, A.M. "Junior" Beights and Dean Beights.

Pallbearers include her grandchildren: Jack Van Cleve IV, Jenna Watson, Jonathan & Vanessa Roeder, RJ & Kim Watson, Kyle & Allison Casey, Lance Casey, Graham Casey, Gary Casey, Allee Casey, & Isla's namesake, Isla Casey.

At the time of her passing Isla was in her 50th month of ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. She lost her ability to speak several years ago and her ability to walk seven months ago, but she still had the best memory in the house up until recently and could communicate with her beautiful handwriting. Throughout the past four years, God demonstrated His love, tender mercies and provision in numerous ways. Isla's family appreciates all the help from the ALS Association, the ALS doctors and staff in San Antonio, the staff of New Century Hospice, and especially all the many acts of kindness, including the prayers, cards, food and visits of many friends & family during this time. God bless and keep all of you.
