Jose "Che" Jimenez of Cotulla passed away on August 16, 2013 at the age of 69. He was born on May 1, 1944 to Pedro and Clara S. Jimenez.

Che Jimenez was a child prodigy, a self-taught musician who had a passion for the accordion and began playing at the age of 6 years old. He also learned how to play various other instruments throughout his lifetime. Che played with various musicians: Hermanos Lumbreras from Northbrook, IL.in 1960 and El Grupo Nosotros from Laredo, TX. Che also played with other various musical groups in the Chicago area. When Che came to Cotulla in the early 1970s he formed his own band known as "Che Jimenez y Los Civiles De Cotulla, TX" that played from 1975-2008.

During Che's young adulthood he spend the majority of his time working as a migrant worker and worked for the Cotulla Independent School District. Che also served 1 term as a LaSalle County Commissioner in Precinct 3in 2005.

His favorite hobbies were fishing and obviously everything related to music. Che was well known in the music industry and had many friends. We thank God for a wonderful husband, loving father and loving grandfather.

Mr. Jimenez is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Clara S. Jimenez Sr.; grandparents, Theodoro and Benancia Salinas of Cotulla, and Ventura and Pilar Jimenez of Pearsall.

Mr. Jimenez is survived by his wife, Maria G. Jimenez; children, Belinda J. Lecea and husband Arturo of Laredo, TX., Joey Jimenez and wife Gloria of San Antonio, TX., Herlinda J. Thomas and husband Robbie of  Cotulla, TX., Diana J. Guzman and husband Reynaldo of Cotulla, TX.; grandchildren, Maria Eliza Lecea, Ashley Lecea, Valerie Jo Jimenez, Joey Anthony Jimenez, Robbie  Thomas, Jr., Cody Thomas, Lyzette Guzman, Lisa Rae Guzman, and Lacey Guzman; brothers, Pedro Jimenez, Jr. and family of Pearsall, TX., Roberto Jimenez of Cotulla, TX. (daughter Raina J. Garza and husband Michael of San Antonio, TX.), and Jaime Jimenez and family of Denton, TX.; sisters, Juanita J. Montemayor and family of Granbury,
TX., Margarita J. Chapa and family of Rolling Meadows, IL., Rosa J. Gonzalez and family of Cotulla, TX.,  Consuelo J. Garcia and family of Pearsall, TX., ; aunts and uncles, Lazaro "Billy" Salinas, wife Amy and family of Northbrook, IL., Gean S. Gayton, husband Beto  and family of Granbury, TX., and Sandy S. Pearson and husband Mel of Granbury, TX.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Peters Funeral Home from 5:00 - 9:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cotulla at 9:30 am with a departure from Peters Funeral Home at 9:15 am. Interment will follow at the Cotulla East Cemetery.
