Jose (Joe) Galvan Sr. 85, a long-time resident of Cotulla, Texas, went to be with our Lord in Heaven July 10, 2022 peacefully at his home. He was born in Cotulla, Texas on September 11, 1936 to the late Luis Sr. and Maria S. Galvan. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Mr. Galvan is survived by his wife of 64 years Maggie Galvan, his daughter Norma Galvan (Marion Adams), sons Rickey Galvan (Tammie), Joe Galvan Jr. (June), Rakow Galvan, and Eloy Galvan (Yolanda). He is survived by eight grandchildren Joe (Joey) Ill, Desiree, Michael, Corey, Dalton, Shelby, Ronny, and Jasmyn. Eleven Great grandkids Caden, RJ, Hannah, Ryan, Jaslynn, Ryhanna, Drake, Kameron, Aaron, Mylin, and Juanito. He is also survived by his sisters Eudelia Elizondo, Belen Martinez and brother Rafael (Sonny) Galvan along with several nieces and nephews.
In the rodeo circuit he was known to his friends as Little Cat. He competed in calf roping all over South Texas, riding the finest of horses and winning many saddles along the way. One of his biggest highlights was competing in New York's Madison Square Garden along side world champion Mr. Juan Salinas.
Mr. Galvan was the owner of Galvan Construction for many years but his love for the rodeo was always there. He would round up cattle with his friends and sons just for the thrill of riding. He served as a LaSalle County Constable in the early 1970's, and he was also a Volunteer Firefighter serving as Chief in the early days. He played an instrumental part in the starting of the Wild Hog Cook-Off. He was a dedicated fan of wrestling, sharing his passion not only with his children but his grandchildren too. He was loved by his family and he will be greatly missed.
Pall bearers are: Joe Galvan Ill, Michael Galvan, Dalton Galvan, Corey Galvan, Caden Garza and Trey Galvan. Honorary Pallbearers are: Desiree Galvan, Shelby Galvan, Jasmyn Galvan, and Tim Waitz.
