Juan Jesus Moreno Sr passed into eternal rest on Thursday evening September 10, 2026 in San Antonio Texas.
Juan was born in Cotulla Texas to Victor Molinar Moreno Sr.and Emilia Ruiz Moreno on March 13, 1955. Juan was raised in the Barrio (El Caracol) in the Mexican side of Cotulla. The son of a carpenter and bar owner, he held fond memories of the neighborhood and community of his youth. During his high school years, Juan played football for the Cotulla Cowboys and ran track where he excelled and was a Texas state qualifier in the 100m dash. He would graduate from Cotulla High School in 1975 and quickly enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from Camp Pendleton California a proud U.S. Marine and would be stationed in Okinawa Japan. After completing his time in service in the Marine Corps he would return to Cotulla and continue his service as a Sheriff's Deputy for the La Salle County Sheriff's Department. Soon after he would meet and marry his wife Irene Eva Cassiano Moreno and enjoy a lifelong marriage of 47 years until his wife's passing in April of 2026. After working with the Sheriff's Dept. Juan would later work for his father and mother-in-law and help manage their grocery store, meat market and family ranch in Encinal Texas. In 1999 he began his employment with his Cotulla Independent School District, holding many positions, bus driver, maintenance director and building construction overseer until his recent retirement in May of 2025.
Juan is preceded in death by his parents and wife Irene C. Moreno. His siblings Ignacio Moreno, Lillian M. Nieto, Victor Moreno Jr., and Oscar H. Moreno Sr.
Juan is survived by his son's Juan Jesus Moreno Jr., and Victor Manuel Moreno Sr. His grandchildren Victor Moreno Jr., Estevan Moreno, Xzavier Moreno and Arabella Rodriguez. His siblings Gloria M.(Armando) Perez, Mary Helen R.(Joe) Barrientos, Dolores (Geronimo) Teran, Diana M. (Henry) Salazar, and Agapito R. (Yolanda) Moreno. Numerous nephews and nieces and extended family.
Visitation and rosary will be on Saturday September 26, 2026 at Peter's Funeral Home with rosary at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cotulla Texas. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cotulla Texas.
