Mary “Helen” Collins passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 30, 1946, she was the daughter of Elmo Francis Collins and Mary M. (Lindsey) Collins.
Helen graduated from Cotulla High School in 1964 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Sul Ross University I 1968. Her educational achievements laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to learning and her many years of service as an educator teaching in Rankin, Refugio, Waelder, Tahoka, and Cotulla, Texas. In her later years, she continued her calling as an educator within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice System. She also spent several years in Hawaii, working as a travel agent, adding another meaningful chapter to her professional journey.
A lifelong learner with many interests, Helen enjoyed crafting, shorthand, beautiful handwriting, singing, and plants. She found joy in creative pursuits and treasured the family connections that remained an important part of her life.
She is survived by her sisters, Jean Huber and Ruby C. Jones (Brother-in law: Darrell Jones); her nieces and nephews, Roy Collins Jr. (Trish), Jason Collings, Lisa Huber Moczygemba (Greg), Brandon Huber (Patricia), Janell Jones Martin (Jeffrey), and Labeth Jones Warren (Dewayne); several great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved fur baby, Baby.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Mary Collins; her brother, Roy Collins; and her brother-in-law, Harold Huber.
Helen leaves a lasting legacy through the many students she taught, the knowledge she shared, the talents she cultivated, and the family who will cherish her memory. Her life reflected the wisdom of Proverbs 3:5-6, reminding us to trust in the Lord and allow Him to direct our paths.
She will be lovingly remembered for her dedication to education, her nay interests, and the enduring place she holds in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Visitation and Graveside will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at the Cotulla West Cemetery at 1:00p.m.
