Obituary

Maureen Pickett "Muzzy" Bell, aged 89, was born Nov. 16, 1932 to Arthur Woodrow Pickett and Nona Louise Martin in Big Wells, Texas.  She went to be with her Lord and Savior Jan. 21, 2022.  Maureen was preceded in death by her parents and husband Chester M. "Buddy" Bell Jr.  Maureen is survived by her favorite brother Cecil Woodrow Pickett and wife Sandy; her son C. M. "Trey" Bell III and wife Liz, grandchildren C. M. "Cuatro" Bell IV, Zane Bell, Sterling Bell, and Colby Jo Bell; son Clinton Woodrow Bell and wife Lois, grandchildren Logan Bell and Charles Clinton "Carlos" Bell; son Clay Bell and wife Sissy, grandson Buddy Clayton Bell; son Cameron Bell and wife Ida; seven great grandchildren; niece Rhonda Pickett Fuller and nephew Marshall Pickett; and several great nieces & nephews and numerous cousins. She loved us all dearly.

"Nub" grew up on a farm near Big Wells and often played with cousins.  Her uncle Harry said he would often have to go outside and tell her "Ok Prietita, it is time to let someone else be the boss for a while."  She graduated from Carrizo Springs High School where she was the band Drum Major.

Maureen and Buddy met at the 4 th of July Rodeo in Cotulla.   Buddy said he was standing at the fence watching the Grand Entry and Maureen came riding by on a big white horse and was "the prettiest thing I had ever seen."  He hot-footed it over to introduce himself and the rest was history!  She was adored by Buddy.  They had a good life together, had many friends, traveled all over and had many adventures together.

Maureen was a faithful and active member of every church she became a member of.  She was an active member of the Texas Cattle Women's Association for many years.  After Buddy passed she served as President of the Cotulla Chamber of Commerce successfully promoting area businesses.  A friend commented one time that "Her picture is in the paper more than Anna Nicole Smith!"

Maureen became Muzzy to most of us 38 years ago because that is what her first grandchild, Cuatro, called her.  She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.  We ALWAYS knew we were loved and supported.  That said, being a mother of four rowdy boys, she was no pushover and very adebt in the judicial use of a fly swatter and horse quirt!  Muzzy loved deeply and was loved in return. She ended the majority of her phone calls with "Love you – Love you.  God bless and keep you." and she meant it.  We and many of you are going to miss her daily calls.  She was a sweetheart and a Prayer Warrior always lifting others in prayer.  It will take a number of us upping our prayer game to fill that void.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, Jan. 24 th 2022, at First Baptist Church Cotulla, 201 Frio St.  Internment will follow at Cotulla Cemetery West with a reception after in the FBC Cotulla Fellowship Hall.
