Maureen Diane Phelps, 81, of Encinal, TX., died on November 11, 2021, of cancer. She was born in San Antonio, TX., on May 9, 1940, to John Nieschwietz and Edna Swize Nieschwietz. She was the oldest of three children. She is preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Alan Nieschwietz.

Diane is survived by her husband, Robert James Phelps; her sister, Sandra Muenchow and brother, John, and wife Nancy Nieschwietz; nephews, Trey and Ryan and great niece, Callie Nieschwietz.

Diane graduated from Incarnate Word College (UIW). She spent the next 35 years teaching at Riverside Park Elementary in San Antonio, where she would retire. She and her husband then moved to Encinal, where on their property they would begin raising cattle, gardening and just enjoying life and family. Diane was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking and sewing. She will be missed by her many friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Peters Funeral Home from 5:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 10:30a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Encinal Cemetery
