Raul
Muriel
Jun 30, 1940 — Dec 1, 2024
Cotulla
Raul Muriel passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 1st, while surrounded by his loving family. He was 84. He was born in Cotulla, TX, to Juanita Perez Muriel and Fernando Muriel on June 30, 1940.
He owned and operated Muriel Brothers Garage and Auto Parts, along with his brother.
He was a volunteer firefighter for Cotulla Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
His community knew him as an honest, hard working man who was always willing to lend a helping hand, a hand that usually had a wrench in it.
His family knew him as a loving husband, a fiercely protective Dad and a doting Papo. He lit up any time any one of his grandchildren or great grandchildren entered a room, even as his memories faded and he had to ask who they were. He taught his kids and their kids how to fish, hunt and how to be good humans with his practical life lessons and his clear examples of right from wrong. With just a third grade formal education, he was self educated, intelligent and wise, and instilled in his children a love for reading and learning. He always read the newspaper from cover to cover and had a blue Compton encyclopedia handy in order to help him teach his children the importance of knowledge.
He was an outdoorsman, but loved to get dressed up on Saturday nights to take his wife out drinking and dancing with their closest friends.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Gloria Gonzalez Muriel, two sisters Anita and Maria Muriel, one brother Juan Muriel, three children, Leticia Muriel (Curtis Dill), Raúl Muriel Jr, Lisa Muriel (Chris Gallegos), grandchildren Veronica Del Toro, Víctor Del Toro, Bianca Muriel and Raúl (Trey) Muriel III and great grandchildren Victoria, Juliana, Audriana, Vincent, James and Lucas Del Toro, Maddison Rios, Haylee, Rylee and Raul Muriel IV.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Fernando, Celestino and Pedro Muriel, his granddaughter Jennifer Márchese and his great grandson Jackson Ayala and his nephews Daniel Muriel and Fernando Muriel III.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Peters Funeral Home from 9:00a.m. to 11:30a.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 12:00p.m. Interment will follow at the Cotulla Southwest Cemetery.
