Sylvia Jaimes Villarreal, devoted wife, mother, educator, and lifelong resident of Cotulla, Texas, passed away on March 16, 2017 at the age of 76 after a long illness.
She was born the only daughter amongst eight brothers to Lupe and Sara Jaimes on September 20, 1940. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eliseo and Armando and son, John Frank Villarreal. She is survived by her brothers Lupe (Iona), Carlos (Aurora), George (Dorithy), Jesus (Velma), Abel (Imelda), Gilbert (Corina), loving husband of 57 years, Nino Villarreal, her son Anthony Villarreal (Theresa) of Corpus Christi Texas and David Villarreal of Del Rio, Texas, and three grandchildren; Catherine Villarreal, Anthony Joseph Villarreal, and John Paul Villarreal.
Sylvia's early education took place in Cotulla at Welhausen Elementary, Amanda Burkes Elementary, Cotulla Junior High, and Cotulla high school graduating in 1959. She earned an Associate Degree in Education, a Bachelor of Science in Education, a Master of Science in Supervision and Sociology, and held both a Mid-Management Certification and Superintendent's Certification. She obtained her degrees from Texas A&I University and Laredo State University. Her teaching and administrative career began in 1965 and she retired in 1999. She was teacher and principal to thousands of students in various schools including: Welhausen Early Childhood Center, Cotulla High School, Frank Newman Middle School, and Ramirez Burks Elementary.
She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a member of the St. Anne Society. She enjoyed volunteering for church activities, cooking, traveling, cruises, and spending time with her grandchildren.
